How to Fix MetaTrader 5 Error 4014 (ERR_FUNCTION_NOT_ALLOWED) and WebRequest Issues

Step-by-step diagnostic fix for MetaTrader 5 error 4014 and 4060 when Expert Advisors fail to verify licenses or communicate with remote APIs.

One of the most frequent technical errors encountered by MT5 algorithmic traders is Error 4014 (ERR_FUNCTION_NOT_ALLOWED) or Error 4060 (ERR_TRADE_DISABLED). Here is how to diagnose and resolve it in under 60 seconds.

1. Why MT5 Blocks WebRequest by Default

For security reasons, MetaTrader 5 operates inside an execution sandbox. MQL5 functions like WebRequest() cannot communicate with external servers unless the exact URL domain has been manually authorized by the user inside the global terminal preferences.

Key Rule: Adding your verification server to the MT5 whitelist is mandatory for any modern licensing system.

2. The 3-Click Whitelist Procedure

Press Ctrl + O in MetaTrader 5 to open Options. Navigate to the 'Expert Advisors' tab. Check the box 'Allow WebRequest for listed URL:'. Click the green '+' icon and enter https://makotradinglab.com. Click OK and restart your chart.

Key Rule: Verify the protocol (https://) is typed correctly with zero trailing spaces.

3. Terminal Journal vs. Experts Tab Debugging

Always check the 'Experts' tab at the bottom of your MT5 terminal (Ctrl + T). If you see 'WebRequest error 4014', the URL was entered incorrectly. If you see 'Trading disabled', the broker's symbol is currently halted or demo mode expired.

Key Rule: The Experts log provides exact error codes for instantaneous debugging.
